Day Two, and Already There’s Trouble…

Nothing I can’t overcome, you understand. However, I’m in a big quandary about what sort of template to use for this WordPress site. The one I’m using now (Twenty Eleven 1.2) came with and is apparently the default. It looks okay and all. I’m having the usual difficulties with themes, though; really start building in the current one, or launch “website lite” and look for a longer-term solution?

My other web homes currently use Atahualpa, which has an amazing number (read: head-thumped daunting) of options. There are things in there that I can’t even figure out after I spend a few hours figuring out what it means. So I leave them alone, rather like not poking a cottonmouth water moccasin with a short stick.

Why bother to consider changing the theme? Why not simply go with what’s already there? Well: Sidebars, widget support, footer definitions (this one’s a bother, apparently), header, fonts; need I continue? Once you’ve got a lot of stuff installed, moving to another theme can sometimes cost days of heavy lifting to make it look good and have everything work.

Woe is me; the sky is falling, the sky is falling…
